Axel Arigato Opens in NYC With a Bang

Swedish footwear brand Axel Arigato is reaching new territory, opening its first U.S. store in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. Located at 273 Lafayette Street, the 1,130 square-foot space was created in collaboration with Halleroed, the architectural studio that helped develop the brand’s European stores.

Inside the store, the brand launched a limited-edition capsule exclusive to its New York location, including black t-shirts, caps, and grinders. Ready-to-wear accounts for 20 percent of Axel Arigato’s business, while footwear retains the majority at 80 percent, According to Vogue Business.

The brand has nine flagship stores globally and is stocked by 250 retailers such as Selfridges, Ssense and 10 Corso Como. Beyond running a retail business in New York City, the store aims to be a cultural hub for the community by hosting music events, and art-gallery experiences for visitors.

The brand hosted a launch party last week to celebrate their debut store atop a rooftop in Brooklyn. Stars such as actress Sarah Snyder and model Fai Khadra were in attendance and guests enjoyed a performance from actor and model DJ Luka Sabbat. American style hot dogs and cocktails were served to keep the party going.

The launch party is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come for Axel Arigato’s arrival in New York. Jens Werner, creative director of Axel Arigato, tells Vogue Scandinavia: ”New York means so much to so many people. To finally have a space where we can bring all these people together is so exciting – and it is our ambition to nurture, explore and collaborate with long-standing and new friends.”
